Our origins

Although we’ve been diving for years, it all took off in the summer of 2019. Across the state we experienced record temperatures and horrendous wildfires. Days after the record high was set in Anchorage, I went out into the mountains with a family friend. He was visiting Anchorage and wanted to climb a peak that would feature some adventure. So, we set off for the most direct route up North Suicide peak. After racing each other up and then back down the mountain, it was getting hot in the afternoon sun. North Suicide peak sits on the edge of Rabbit Lake, a large snow fed alpine lake. Unable to fight the temptation we jumped in to cool off. I peered below the brutally cold surface and the rest is history.

I went to the local dive shop, found the one other active Freediver in town. We started diving weekly. After a few months we started mentoring people who were interested in freediving. Next thing you know, the community of freediving is exploding in size. Fast forward and I am now a Master Freediver and an Instructor and hooked on freediving. I started 20 Below Freediving to help share my passion for unexplored and the cold watery depths of Alaska. Whether you’re interested in diving deep, shooting the next record fish, or you simply want to see what it is all about, let us know. We always love meeting new divers here in the last frontier.
